Internships at GLS
GLS offers one production/office management internship each year of up to 12
months; we occasionally consider shorter internships.
The GLS internship is open to qualified native-German-speaking students
enrolled in translation and interpreting studies programs at German
universities.
Interns with GLS obtain hands-on experience in virtually all aspects of
translation agency management, including translating, editing, quality control
and interaction with clients and vendors.
Former interns have come from German T&I programs in Erlangen, Munich, and
Cologne.
Here is what two of our recent interns had to say about their experience
working at GLS:
|
". I gained a great deal from my stay in Seattle. I was able to increase my
linguistic knowledge as well as put my theoretical learning from my studies and
school to practical use. This was possible mostly because I was treated not
just as an intern but as a full-fledged team member. I see this as the
advantage of doing an internship in a small agency, where you are involved in
all the tasks and all aspects of the work: from contacts with clients and
translators to dealing with job applications from freelancers. I learned many
important practical things in my internship that the theoretical part of my
studies did not teach me, for example when a client changes a deadline for a
translation or asks for additional pages to be translated or . how to calculate
the price of a translation, how to negotiate with clients, the different stages
a translation passes through, how to translate efficiently and how to market
oneself as a freelancer." |

". I very much enjoyed my time at GLS. I liked the atmosphere at work, the team
spirit and the pride GLS takes in its work. GLS was a good place to get into
real translation business because Maia and Courtney really care about the
interns and want the internship to be a good and useful experience ." |
