GLS ensures the very high quality of its translations with a small core of in-house staff along with a large pool of specialized independent contractors.
 Maia Costa After completing her undergraduate studies at Macalester College in St. Paul,
Minnesota, Maia Costa lived and studied in Cologne, Germany for six years. She
earned her degree as a Certified Translator (Diplom-Übersetzerin)
specializing in legal translation from the Cologne University of Applied
Sciences.
She worked as a freelance translator in Germany and translated several trade
books for a major publishing company before returning to the United States in
2000.
Upon returning to the States, Maia immediately began working as a part-time
translator and editor for GLS where she honed her skills translating legal and
pharmaceutical texts from German into English.
She teaches Fundamentals of Translation and Advanced German Translation at the
Translation and Interpretation Institute
in Bellevue, Washington.
Maia is an active member of the American
Translators Association
(ATA) and has been ATA-certified since 2000. She is a grader for ATA German to
English certification exams and is the deputy language chair of the German to
English grader team.
As the Managing Director of GLS, Maia is primarily responsible for project
management, quality control, and translator screening and training.
