Staff
GLS ensures the very high quality of its translations with a small core of in-house staff along with a large pool of specialized independent contractors.
GLS maintains an international network of translators, interpreters, editors,
and consultants with a wide range of subject-area expertise. Although we are
always interested in developing relationships with new translators, we have an
established group of trained, experienced independent contractors with whom we
work on a regular basis. When our volume exceeds our resources, or when new
projects require new subject area expertise, we rely primarily on word of mouth
and networking in our professional organizations to find new translators. We
also have a core group of Seattle-based translators, interpreters, and project
managers who augment our in-house staff when we are working on high-volume
projects.
We screen potential translators carefully and work primarily with those who
have a degree in translation, have lived abroad for a minimum of three years,
work into their native language and specialize in one language pair (German ↔ English). We also provide regular feedback to freelancers and maintain open
lines of communication to ensure consistency and improve quality. We constantly
update our database of potential translators and interpreters in an effort to
keep up with the evolving and increasingly high-tech nature of both the German
and English languages.
